Behind Green Lights, 1946

Behind Green Lights is a 1946 American crime film directed by Otto Brower, featuring performances by Carole Landis, William Gargan, and Mary Anderson. The film was produced and distributed by Twentieth Century Fox. Plot Police Lieutenant Sam Carson investigates the murder of Walter Bard, whose bullet-ridden corpse is found in a car outside the police station. Bard's appointment book leads Carson to question Janet Bradley, who admits Bard had been blackmailing her friend. When the corrupt medical examiner, Dr. Yager, informs a newspaper owner that Bard actually died from poison, a cover-up ensues. Meanwhile, Carson interviews Bard's estranged wife, Nora, and her boyfriend, Arthur Templeton. Complications arise as a prisoner escapes in an ambulance with Bard's body, only to be found by a reporter. Carson orders a second autopsy and confronts Yager, realizing Bard had been investigating him for malpractice. In the end, Nora and Templeton confess, and Carson takes Janet Bradley out.
